P. Diddy’s Drink: A Review of Cîroc Vodka from WhiskeyD
At WhiskeyD, we’re always on the lookout for unique spirits that stand out from the crowd. Today, we're diving into a vodka that has made a significant splash in the market—Cîroc vodka from France. Sampled in Germany back in 2013, this clear, 40% ABV vodka, crafted from grapes, quickly became one of my favorites.
What to Know
Cîroc vodka is not your typical grain or potato-based spirit. Instead, it’s distilled from grapes, much like Bree vodka. This distinction contributes to its unique flavor profile and sets it apart in the crowded vodka market.
Owned jointly by Diageo, the global beverage giant behind brands like Ketel One and Smirnoff, and American rapper and entrepreneur Sean Combs, also known as P. Diddy, Cîroc combines French craftsmanship with a touch of celebrity flair.
The French Connection
Interestingly, the official Cîroc website focuses more on the artisanal aspects of the vodka-making process rather than its high-profile ownership. This marketing strategy is reminiscent of other brands like Ketel One and Tito’s Handmade, which emphasize the craftsmanship and tradition behind their products.
Trying Something New
Initially, I wasn’t overly enthusiastic about trying a vodka associated with P. Diddy. However, my experience with Bree vodka, also made from grapes, convinced me to give it a shot. I’m glad I did, as Cîroc turned out to be a delightful surprise.
The Taste Experience
Cîroc vodka is one of the smoothest vodkas I’ve ever tasted, with a distinct sweetness that hits immediately. This sweetness evolves into a complex, aromatic aftertaste. However, the aftertaste feels a bit “cold” and doesn’t provide the warming sensation that some other vodkas do.
The bottle design is simple yet distinctive, featuring blue dots near the top and bottom. It’s a quirky touch that makes the bottle stand out on the shelf. The price, around 28€ for 700ml, is slightly higher than average but justified by the quality.
A Favorite
Cîroc has quickly become one of my favorite vodka brands. Its sweet, smooth taste makes it perfect for enjoying neat and at room temperature. Whether the grapes or the five-fold distillation process contribute more to its exceptional quality is hard to say, but the result is undeniably world-class.
Whether you’re a fan of P. Diddy or not, Cîroc vodka is a must-try for any vodka enthusiast. Its unique production process and distinctive flavor profile make it a standout choice in the premium vodka market. So next time you’re looking for something special, consider reaching for a bottle of Cîroc. It’s a decision you won’t regret.
